Raphaël E. DUVAL obtained his M.Sc.’s Degree in 1997 (subject: “Survival and mutagenesis during the stationary phase in Escherichia coli”) from Aix-Marseille University; his PhD's Degree in 2003 (subject: “Expression of the different apoptotic pathways induced by the Visna Retrovirus”) from the University of Limoges; and few years later, his PharmD's Degree in 2018 (subject: “Colistin resistance”) from the Université de Lorraine.

Raphaël E. DUVAL was appointed as Assistant Professor in 2004, and later promoted as Associate Professor in 2010, at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Université de Lorraine, France. Since 2012, he has held the position of Professor (Full) of Clinical Microbiology at the same institution.

In 2018, Raphaël E. DUVAL was elected Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy at the Université de Lorraine, a role for which he was re-elected in June 2023.

In February 2022, he was elected as Vice-President of the Conference of Deans of French Faculties of Pharmacy. He has served as its First Vice-President since June 2023.

Between 2021 and 2025, Raphaël E. DUVAL served as an expert with the National Agency for the Safety of Medicines and Health Products (ANSM, i.e., French Medicines Agency).

Raphaël E. DUVAL’s research focuses on the discovery of new anti-infective agents (natural or synthetic), the development of novel therapeutic strategies, and the understanding of (i) the mechanisms of action of antimicrobial agents and (ii) the mechanisms by which pathogens develop resistance to antimicrobials.

Raphaël E. DUVAL is the author of over 90 international publications, 6 patents, 8 book chapters, and 8 invited lectures, and has presented 140 papers at national and international conferences. He has an h-index of 36, and his articles have been cited more than 4,200 times (Web of Science, July 2026).
